Title
Gate Gate Paragate Mantra in Kaisho Style
Artist
Nadja Van Ghelue
Medium
Painting - Ink On Rice Paper
Description
Mantra from the Buddhist Heart Sutra brushed in standard or regular script of Japanese calligraphy. The mantra "gate, gate, paragate, parasamgate, bodhi svaha" means "gone, gone, gone beyond, enlightenment hail!" is a wisdom mantra that reconnects us with our awakened nature. The kanji are brushed in the kaisho style, a calligraphic style of Japanese calligraphy that gives less artistic freedom to the calligrapher than other styles. But at the same time this calligraphic style highlights the inherent beauty and grace of the Chinese and Japanese characters.
