Artist's Description
The Perfection Of Wisdom, Hannyaharamitta, In Flowing Cursive
Hannyaharamitta is the Japanese transliteration for the Sanskrit word Prajnaparamita. Prajna means "Wisdom" and depending on how you parse the word 'paramita', Prajnaparamita has two possible meanings. Prajnaparamita can mean "wisdom that leads to the other shore" or "perfection of wisdom".
Prajnaparamita is called the Mother of all Buddhas. I wanted to emphasize this female aspect and I have therefore rendered 'hannyaharamitta' in a flowing cursive style. The style is inspired by the cursive calligraphy of Wang Xizhi. (Wang Hsi-chih), the 4th century Chinese calligraphy-saint whose elegant cursive style became an eternal model for all calligraphers.
The Japanese kanji of the HANNYAHARAMITTA calligraphy are:
般 han , 若 nya, 波 ha, 羅 ra , 蜜 mi, 多 ta
