Description
The Straightforward Mind Is The Place Of Enlightenment
These words are attributed to the famous laymen Vimalakirti.
In the Vimalakirti Sutra a young bodhisattva recounts that one day as he was about to leave the city of Vaisali he met Vimalakirti who was just arriving. He asked him where he was coming from. Vimalakirti answered, "I am coming from the place of enlightenment." The bodhisattva asked him, "From the place of enlightenment? Where is that"? Vimalakirti replied "A straightforward mind is the place of enlightenment ."
I have brushed the Japanese phrase 'Jikishin Kore Dojo' in a semi-cursive and cursive style.
Other possible translations for Jikishin Kore Dojo are:
The Straightforward Mind Is The Place Of Practice
The Straightforward Mind Is The Dojo
The Straightforward Mind Is The Field Of Enlightenment
In his book ' The Platform Sutra, The teaching of Hui-neng', the translator Red Pine remarks that other possible translations for the word chin/ jiki are honest, sincere and direct.
