Description
After a longer calligraphy session I grasped the three brushes I had been using during this particular session and in a joined performance of all three brushes I draw this candid Three-Brush-Enso.
The Three-Brush-Enso shows an accompanying semi-cursive calligraphy of a verse taken from the Diamond Sutra:
應 無 所 住 而 生 其 心,
Ō mu sho jū ni shō go shu.
When hearing this phrase the 6th Zen Patriarch Hui-neng suddenly became enlightened.
I like to brush this phrase repeatedly to deepen my understanding of it.
Some of my favorite English translations of this verse are:
Give birth to a thought that is not attached to anything. (Red Pine)
Engender the mind with no place for it to abide. (Scott Wilson)
Let your mind be unattached, clinging to nothing. (Dr. Martin Verhoeven)
