Description
Bodhidharma painting in bold ink brushstrokes with contemporary Zen calligraphy; Japanese -jikishi jinshin kensho jobutsu, English -Point Directly At the Human Mind, See its Nature Become Buddha.
Inspired by Zen Master Hakuin's Daruma paintings I have depicted Bodhidharma, the first Patriarch of Zen in China, Chinese Damo, Japanese Daruma in straightforward ink brushstrokes.
The accompanying calligraphy summarizes the essence of the Chan/Zen teaching brought to China by Bodhidharma. It says:
In Japanese:
jikishi jinshin kensho jobutsu
直 指 人 心, 見 性 成 佛
In English:
Point directly at the human mind,
See its nature and become buddha.
