Description
This calligraphy shows the Japanese kanji Ken 見, Chinese chien, jiàn, in a modern pictorial language. Through a cursive calligraphic gesture I brought to life the impact of the original pictograph which depicts a standing or sitting person, with a small body and a huge eye on the top.
Ken means to see, to behold, to perceive. I have brushed this Ken calligraphy with Kenshō in mind; the meditative state of illuminating one's own nature, and seeing one's inherent original Buddha, to behold one's original enlightened mind. And the '見 - Big Eye, Small Body' seemed to me an excellent depiction of this Wisdom Eye.
